Family Law

Family matters are rarely only legal matters. We move quickly where speed protects you, and slowly where a durable agreement matters more than a fast one.

Most of our family clients come to us at the separation stage, before anything has been filed. That is the point where the widest range of options is still open, and where a well-drafted separation agreement can keep a family out of a courtroom entirely.

When litigation is unavoidable, we prepare for it properly. North Carolina requires a year of separation before an absolute divorce, and the equitable distribution, custody and support questions are usually resolved long before that date arrives. We keep those pieces moving in parallel so nothing waits on a calendar it does not have to wait on.

Matters we handle

Separation agreements and property settlements
Absolute divorce and equitable distribution
Child custody, visitation and relocation
Child support and post-separation support
Alimony claims and modifications
Prenuptial and postnuptial agreements
Adoption and guardianship
